meat is cheaper than potatoes

.. something really weird is going on. I just got back from a business trip. I didn’t get a chance to eat before I left, so I had to eat at the airport.

I stopped at some food mall type place inside the terminal and the one place that caught my eye, there was no one there. And I found I *really* wanted one of the sandwiches from there. I had to wait 3 or 4 mins for someone to come out. I bought a sandwich, water, bag of chips, and an odwalla drink thingy and it came to almost $20. “Damn” .. I thought. “Thank god I’m not paying for it.” :)

It tasted like poop. Really bad. I ate everything other than half the poop sandwich, and *still* felt unsatisfied.

I’d a bunch of time before the flight so I wandered around a bit. The only thing I now craved was .. McDonald’s!!! Not had one of those in years… really wanted some chips (read: fries). Then while waiting for chips I thought “feck it, I’ll have a burger too”.

Fries: $2.71
Cheeseburger: $1.50

Errr … WTF?! How can potatoes cut into strips and deep fried, cost more than a piece of cow raised from birth, feed and watered, slaughtered, made into bite sized pieces, plus bun, plus lettuce, pickle, and lots of other random ingredients and chemicals etc. ?!?!?!?

I asked the girl behind the counter, how can chips, sorry fries, cost more than a cheeseburger. She half laughed and said she’d not noticed before.

Ever noticed some places Coke is cheaper than water?

I didn’t finish the burger. When I was done I still didn’t feel full, and I actually felt kinda funny. It kinda made me want to be veggie again. Fri, January 26, 2007 - 12:17 AM
